Thursday Thoughts

But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil” (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

Underneath the calm appearing surface- the one we show the world- of our daily lives a fierce spiritual war is being waged.  And the best battle plan for it is prayer.  Prayer that God will continue to protect us and keep us strong.

We must always be prepared for these battles that continuously come.  To do so we must: (1) realize that spiritual attacks are very real and serious; (2) continuously pray to God for strength and help from Him; (3) study God’s word to be able to recognize satan’s tricks; (4) memorize God’s word and make it your source for help; (5) surround yourself with those who are true followers of Jesus; and (6) do what you know is right by God’s standards.

Take time today to pray to God and ask Him to prepare you for battle.          “War inside” - Todd Agnew

Thursday Thoughts

For I say…to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think” (Romans 12:3).

A good self-esteem is needed since some of us think low of ourselves; conversely, some of us think too highly of ourselves.  The main way to have an accurate self-evaluation is to know the foundation of our worth - our identity in Christ.

Self-esteem based on worldly standards can make you feel much more worthy in the eyes of others and not see how we measure up in God’s eyes.  Apart from Christ, we score extremely low by eternal standards; in Him we are much more valuable and more capable of achieving high standards.

Take time today to pray to God and ask Him to show you an accurate measure of esteem.          “Getting to know me” - Petree

Thursday Thoughts

Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness” (2 Timothy 2:20).

Some people would consider running away a cowardly act.  But wise people know that removing yourself (running away) physically from temptation is usually the best and most courageous act that you can take.  Paul urged Timothy, and everyone else as well, to flee from anything that would bring about evil thoughts or actions.

Maybe you have recurring temptations in your life that have become difficult to resist.  Removing yourself physically from the situation is the best and easiest way to fight off that temptation.  Knowing when to run away is just as important as knowing when to do battle.

Take time today to pray to God and ask Him to show you when to fight and when to run.          “Get away” - Matthew West

To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:4-5).

Our salvation comes to us from the graciousness of God.  Out of His love for us, He chose us.  Out of His love for us, Jesus died to pay the price for our sin.  Out of His love for us, the Holy Spirit cleansed our sin from us when we believed.

Our blessed hope is not just waiting in our futures; our eternal life begins the moment we believe in God and accept Jesus as our Savior.  As Christians we can look forward to a family inheritance in our eternal life in the city of God.  It’s already waiting for us, if we have trusted Christ as our Savior.  We may have to endure trials and tribulations in this life, but we can rest assured knowing we will receive our promised rewards.

Take time today to pray to God and thank Him for your assurance and the rewards to follow.          “Blessed Assurance” - Third Day

Thursday Thoughts

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body” (2 Corinthians 4:8-10).

Paul is reminding us here that even though it might feel to us that we are at the end of the proverbial rope, we, through Jesus’ power, are never at the end of our hope.  Though our bodies are subject to sin and suffering, God will never abandon us.  And since Jesus has defeated death, we have eternal life.

Any trials, tribulations, and temptations we face are but opportunities for God to show His strength and power through us.  As we meet these troubles it is easy to focus on our pain and discomfort, rather than on the rewards to come for our steadfast faith.  So, no matter what happens in this life, remember, we have a far greater life waiting for us.

Take time today to pray to God and ask Him to help you focus on the gain, not the pain.          “You will never leave me” - Sidewalk Prophets

Thursday Thoughts

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God; who loved me, and gave Himself for me“  (Galatians 2:20).

Exactly how have we been crucified with Christ?  God looks at us in a legal sense just as if we had died with Jesus.  When Jesus died on Calvary, our sins died with Him, so we are no longer condemned.  We have become one with Christ; His experiences are our experiences.

Our new life in Christ began when we died to our old selves.  Everyday we must crucify our sinful desires that try to hinder our walk with Jesus.

However, the point of Christianity should not be on dying, but on living.  Living as Jesus taught us to live; by following His example.  After all, Jesus lives in us - He’s our reason for living, and the hope of our future.

Take time today to pray to Go and ask Him to help you die daily and follow Jesus.          “My place is with You” - Clay Crosse
